About the December Format
What about the 21 days notice?
The CASLI Bylaws state that members will receive 21-35 days notice for the AGM. We needed to consider two things: holidays* and completing the AGM before the end of 2020**.
At the portion of the AGM that was hosted in November, CASLI was able to pass all of the procedural motions and some of the new business. Those will
not need to be repeated.
We're asking for a little understanding,
and we're open to suggestions. We do have a form ready to survey CASLI about your preferences for the AGM.

The 21-35 days' notice in the CASLI bylaws can be interpreted a number of ways. Since the upcoming meeting dates are an extension of the previous AGM in November, the number of days' notice may or may not apply. The Canadian law about non-profit corporations and an AGM states that it must be held every 12 months or before December 31, 2020. (see https://www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/cd-dgc.nsf/eng/cs08611.html and http://www.ic.gc.ca/eic/siTe/cd-dgc.nsf/eng/cs06828.html for details). Erring on the side of caution with federal compliance seemed to be the safer option for CASLI and the Board of Directors. Canadian law does not state when the AGM has to be completed. The interpretation of the law could be that since the AGM started in November 2020, it may be completed in 2021. Rest assured that if the majority of CASLI (i.e., the membership) decides to postpone until 2021, that decision will be respected.
*Hanukkah is December 10-18 and Christmas is the following week.

The October 25 AGM has met the requirements for the federal law. The October 25th meeting will be considered adjourned. The items that were remaining on the agenda will be completed in 2021.
Voting for the 2020-2022 Board of Directors will take place between December 9 to 11, 2020.
Tell me more about the schedule for discussions & voting.
The AGM will have two distinct parts: discussions and voting.
Discussions were originally scheduled to be held over three days via Zoom and an online forum. Due to popular demand, the remaining discussions & motions have been postponed until 2021.
Voting will be open for full 72 hours starting Wednesday, December 9 and ending Friday, December 10.
Is voting going to work? How?
Yes! Yes, it will.
Voting will be done via an online form. Each member will receive a unique code. The code will be sent to the email address that office has on file. To check your email address, please log into www.avlic.ca and access the member portal.
Before voting opens, you will be able to view the discussion of each motion. Votes can be submitted from Wednesday, December 9 to Friday, December 11.
Preview the voting process by using the sample form.

If you need to make a correction to your vote, you can. Please be aware that the most recent vote submitted before voting closes will be recognized as your final decision.
Votes will be counted by scrutineers who are non-CASLI members. Your vote will be kept confidential.
Suggestion, comment, complaint?
If you have anything to mention, please use this form.
CASLI is in a fortunate and unique position: the AGM started in November. These December dates are a continuation of that meeting. The Federal law could be interpreted that the AGM
was started in 2020. If a majority of CASLI (i.e., the members) would like to have this
extension held in 2021, that will be respected. Complete the form to tell us more!
